ICF Belgium annual MCC Lunch 2026: standards, ethics and the future of coaching
What do coaches at the top of their craft talk about when they finally sit
down together?
Not technique. On 24 September, at the Chaloupe d'Or on the Grand Place in
Brussels, the ICF Belgium Chapter brought together the Master Certified
Coaches of Belgium for its annual MCC Lunch. The conversation turned almost
immediately to the profession itself.
The format was deliberately simple. No program to work through, no speaker,
no slides. A long table, a shared meal, and time. Few moments in the year
bring this group into the same room, and the value of the gathering lies
precisely in that scarcity.
Conversations began where you would expect, with individual journeys. The
milestones that shaped each practice, the shifts that changed how each coach
works today, the experiences that only surface among peers who have travelled
a similar road.
They did not stay there for long.
The discussion widened to the questions that concern every coach in the
country, whatever their credential. How to keep strengthening professional
standards. How to hold ethics as a living practice rather than a document.
How to build the quality and credibility that allow organisations to trust
coaching as a discipline. And how a national chapter can contribute
concretely to the professionalisation of coaching in Belgium.
This is where the MCC community carries a particular responsibility. Reaching
this level of accreditation reflects years of practice, supervision and
continuous development. It also places these coaches in a position to
support others: as mentors, as supervisors, as people who help define what
good looks like. The evolution of the profession, including the new
specialisations for mentor coaching and supervision, gives that contribution
a clearer shape than ever.
The ICF vision was part of the conversation too. What the federation is
building internationally, and how a Belgian chapter translates that into a
local reality, across three regions and three languages.
What made the gathering valuable, though, was not the agenda. It was the
quality of listening. Coaches who spend their working lives creating space
for others took the time to offer it to one another. Perspectives were
exchanged. Views were challenged, generously. Ideas emerged that no one
brought into the room alone.
That is the richness of a community of practice, and it is something no
individual practice can replicate.
Thank you to every MCC coach who joined and contributed to this
conversation. Thank you to Miguel Candelas and Philippe R. Declercq for
bringing the group together. And thank you to the wider team of ambassadors
and board members who keep these moments alive throughout the year.
The conversation started at that table will continue. It always does.
