What happens to the value of a good question when a machine can answer almost anything?

This is not a theoretical puzzle. It is a question that HR leaders now face every day, as artificial intelligence moves from experiment to infrastructure. And it sat at the heart of the 2026 HR Leadership Summit, where the ICF Belgium Chapter of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) was proudly represented.

The summit brought together Chief Human Resources Officers and senior HR leaders around a demanding question: how can HR create measurable business value in a world shaped by AI, economic uncertainty and rapidly evolving work models?

The ICF Belgium Chapter attended as a team, with Alexandre Tielemans, Diane Richier, Raquel Izquierdo de Santiago, Jürgen Heyman and Miguel Candelas representing our community. Two of them, Jürgen Heyman and Miguel Candelas, also contributed to the programme as speakers. For us, being present together mattered as much as being on stage. It reflects a shared commitment to advancing professional coaching in Belgium, side by side with the leaders who shape how organisations work.

Two talks, one thread: what stays human

Jürgen Heyman explored the intersection of AI and coaching. His talk opened important questions about how technology is reshaping the coaching profession, and how we can embrace innovation while preserving what makes coaching so powerful: human connection, presence and the ability to create meaningful change.

Miguel Candelas invited leaders to reflect on a question that is simple to ask and harder to answer. In a world where AI can provide answers to almost anything, what is the value of asking the right questions?

Taken together, the two talks pointed in the same direction. Technology changes what we can do. It does not decide what we should do, or why. That part remains deeply human.

Beyond the talks, the summit surfaced a clear set of pressing challenges for the HR function. Leaders are expected to demonstrate measurable business impact. They are moving towards predictive and evidence-based decision-making. They must manage costs, break down data silos and adapt to workplaces that keep changing shape.

None of these challenges is purely technical. Each one depends on how organisations engage their people, build their capabilities and integrate technology into everyday work. That is where the real difference is made, and that is where professional coaching comes in.

There is a tempting assumption that the more answers machines can produce, the less we need human reflection. We see the opposite.

When information becomes abundant, judgement becomes scarce. Professional coaching creates the space for that judgement to grow. It invites reflection, challenges assumptions and unlocks potential. Above all, it helps people move from having answers to discovering new possibilities.

For leaders, this means making better decisions under uncertainty. For teams, it means learning to work with new tools without losing sight of purpose. For organisations, it means turning technological investment into outcomes that people can actually feel.

As AI continues to transform the workplace, the challenge is not simply to become more technologically advanced. It is to become more intentional about the uniquely human capabilities we want to develop. The future belongs to organisations that create the conditions for technological progress to translate into meaningful outcomes for people, organisations and society.

At the ICF Belgium Chapter, we believe professional coaching has an essential role to play in this shift. We support leaders, develop people and help organisations navigate complexity with greater awareness, agility and purpose.

Events like the HR Leadership Summit remind us why this work matters. They create the conversations where coaching meets the realities of business, and where the questions that shape the next decade of work are asked out loud.

A sincere thank you to the organisers and to Alain Vande Kerkhove, to all the speakers and participants, and to our fellow colleagues for the conversations, insights and shared commitment to advancing professional coaching in Belgium.

Answers are everywhere. The right questions are still ours to ask.
